An advocate for strengthening the Zakat system in Nigeria, and a prominent figure among the Muslim faithful, and one of the directors in Jigawa  State Agricultural Transformation Agency,
 Dr. Rahamat Muhammad,also disclosed that the Zakat system has remained a longstanding institution as enshrined in the Holy Qur’an and one of the five pillars of Islam.
Responding to questions from journalists after the launch of the Zakat app and the formal inauguration of the Board of Trustees of the Ummah Zakat Foundation, Dr. Rahamat stated that the application is expected to help curb the activities of middlemen and enhance transparency within the Zakat collection and distribution process. She further noted that while the app may initially appear challenging to navigate, continuous feedback from users will enable the foundation to implement necessary improvements whenever the need arises.
She emphasized that Zakat is not solely intended to alleviate street begging; more importantly, it is meant to empower the most vulnerable with opportunities and skills that will enable them to become self-reliant. In illustrating this point, she cited the example of the Jigawa State Governor, whose commitment to agriculture has enabled youths to acquire practical capabilities and secure meaningful employment.
Dr. Rahamat also explained that the Ummah Zakat Foundation is positioned to ensure that funds reach their intended beneficiaries in accordance with the programme’s purpose and objectives. She expressed optimism regarding the composition of the Board of Trustees, led by His Royal Highness Alh. Samaila Muhammad Mera, the Emir of Argungu, and other distinguished personalities, adding that the board is well-placed to deliver on the vision and mission of the Ummah Zakat Foundation.
It wo6 be understood that Dr. Rahmat Muhammad is one the steering committee members of Ummah Zakat Foundation.
