Dr Mohammed Alhaji Audu Elevated to Professorial position by the UNIMAID. Governing Council. By CHINONYEREM Igwe, Abuja.

The Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri has approved the promotion of Dr. Mohammed Alhaji Audu—formerly Provost, College of Education, Waka-Biu—to the rank of Professor of Finance.
The decision was ratified at the Council’s 167th meeting held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
Audu served as Provost of the College of Education, Waka-Biu, Borno State, from August 2017 to August 2021. He subsequently joined the University of Maiduguri’s Department of Banking and Finance in the Faculty of Management Sciences.
In 2022, he was elevated to the position of Associate Professor, where he has continued to advance both teaching and research in the field of finance. He also holds an LLB (Hons) in Public Law from the University of Maiduguri.
Professor Audu further serves as an external Member of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Army University Biu, a role he has held since August 2024 to date.
During his tenure as Provost, Blueprint Newspapers reported his commendation of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) following the commissioning of two Special High Impact Projects at the college in September 2020.
RESEARCH IN CORPORATE FINANCE
Professor Audu’s research interests encompass capital structure, financial leverage, and corporate financial management.
Among his published works is Asset Structure and Capital Structure Correlation: Evidence from Non-Finance Firms in Nigeria, which appeared in the International Journal of Accounting, Finance, and Administrative Research in 2025. The study investigates how variations in asset composition shape financing choices among non-financial firms listed on the Nigerian Exchange, using data from 2014 to 2023.
His appointment as Professor of Finance represents yet another significant milestone in a distinguished career that spans academic administration, university teaching, and scholarly research.
