The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has said the reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu are laying a solid foundation for Nigeria’s long-term prosperity, stressing that they will secure the nation’s future.

Akume, speaking through his Senior Assistant (Technical), Prof. Babatunde Bolaji Benard, stated this on Tuesday at a one-day conference on the development of the North-Central region under the Renewed Hope Agenda in Abuja.

He noted that while some of the administration’s policies may not yield immediate results, they remain indispensable for repositioning Nigeria toward sustainable growth.

“The President is a trailblazer. He is taking decisions that may not produce instant results, but they are the kind of reforms that will secure Nigeria’s future,” Akume said.

Benard, in a further illustration, likened the reforms to cooking beans—arguing that the process demands patience, but the eventual outcome is invariably rewarding.

He cited the Student Loan Scheme and ongoing infrastructure projects across the country as clear evidence of the administration’s commitment to economic development.

According to him, initiatives such as the Calabar–Abuja highway corridor and the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway are expected to stimulate economic activities while strengthening connectivity nationwide.

Also at the event, a youth coalition under the aegis of the North Central Agenda endorsed President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing his victory as a “done deal.”

Speaking on behalf of the group, its Convener, Dr Ene Ogbole, said the North Central region has recorded notable improvements in infrastructure, education, agriculture and security under the Tinubu administration.

“Since assuming office on the 29th of May, 2023, President Tinubu has demonstrated the courage to take difficult decisions, all aimed at ensuring the region’s long-term, all-round prosperity. For the people of the North Central region, these efforts have brought renewed hope and visible progress,” she said.

Ogbole listed key projects including the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Kogi–Nasarawa–Abuja Super Highway, the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Maiduguri Highway, the Suleja–Minna Dual Carriageway, and the Lokoja–Okene Dualisation as well as the Makurdi–Aliade–Otukpo Road, as further proof of the administration’s commitment to the region’s development.

She equally commended government education interventions through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, alongside security measures that, she said, have encouraged farmers to return to their farms.

Declaring the group’s support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition, Ogbole said: “Consequently, we are pledging to mobilise massively like never before across the entire North Central states to support the re-election of the President who has brought us from doom to the dawn of a new era. For us as the voice of the North Central people, this re-election is a done deal, and we will stop at nothing within the confines of the law to ensure that his victory is secured.”

Responding to questions, Prof. Babatunde Bolaji Benard addressed the recurring issue of electricity not meeting campaign promises, stating that the President has made credible progress in the power sector.

He disclosed that electricity generation has improved significantly, adding that efforts are ongoing to ensure robust distribution to consumers.

He further applauded Tinubu for prioritising rural electrification, emphasising that the initiative has extended power supply to underserved communities.
