The Chairman of Association of Community Pharmaceutical of Nigeria Lagos State Branch, Pharm Tolulope Ajayi has explained that community pharmacists provide health education, drug information, counseling and follow-up that help patients use medicines correctly and safely. He made.assertion during the on going Association of Community Pharmaceutical of Nigeria Conference in Abuja while answering questions from journalists.
According to him, they serve as the first point of contact for many people, especially those who may not have easy access to doctors, thereby reducing unnecessary hospital visits and helping to improve treatment outcomes.
Ajayi called for increased recognition of community pharmacy practice by ensuring that pharmacists are involved in policy formulation, medicines distribution and primary health care programs at the state and national levels. He stressed that proper regulation, improved infrastructure and streamlined licensing processes would encourage excellence and professionalism among practitioners.
He also appealed for better collaboration between community pharmacies and other health institutions, saying that such synergy would strengthen the health care system and guarantee continuity of care for patients across communities. He concluded by reiterating that the ACPN remains committed to advocating for the welfare of pharmacists and promoting quality health care delivery to Nigerians.
