Minister of Youth Development Challenges National Youth Council Nigeria to Embrace Peace. By CHiNONYEREM IGWE, Abuja.

The Honorable Minister of Youth Development, Comr. Ayodele Olawande, has appealed for broad support for the interim leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, under the stewardship of Comr. Bihari Ibrahim Shehu, to conduct free, fair, and credible elections—aimed at ushering in fresh, competent, and legitimate leadership for the body.
The minister made the appeal during the Council’s meeting in Abuja, where he met with key stakeholders, including the Chairmen of the 36 states and the FCT, to deliberate on strategies for restoring dignity, unity, and cohesion among members.
He further underscored the imperative for all members to remain steadfast on the path of peace, affirming his commitment to do everything within his power to promote reconciliation and ensure enduring unity within the National Youth Council of Nigeria. He urged all factions to embrace peace as the surest route to genuine reconciliation, stressing that such unity is indispensable for national development and social harmony.
Speaking to journalists after the engagement, the interim National President, Comr. Buhari Ibrahim Shehu, noted that all the 36 state chairmen and other critical stakeholders were present, adding that they had unanimously resolved to remain committed to executing their mandates as outlined in the Constitution of the Council.
According to him, the mandate includes the constitution of a committee to oversee the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections. He also stated that a reconciliation committee has been constituted to bridge divisions and harmonize the competing factions. In addition, several other consequential measures have been adopted to further entrench the peace process and sustain its momentum.
He urged all warring factions to remain calm and embrace peace, emphasizing that peace remains the only viable foundation upon which society can progress.
At the meeting, the Council unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of Hon. Minister of Youth Development, Comr. Ayodele Olawande, congratulating him on his elevation to the position of Minister, and assuring him of their readiness to collaborate closely to achieve maximum results.
