The Vice Chancellor of the African School of Economics, Prof. Majhfouz A. Adedimji, has disclosed that the inauguration of the Board of Directors for Academics is intended to further the advancement of science and technology development in Nigeria. He noted that the initiative is geared toward strengthening, deepening, and promoting innovation in science, technology, and research.
Speaking to newsmen during the recent inauguration of the board council in Abuja, Prof. Adedimji stated that any society that fails to embrace progress in science and technology stands to lose significantly. According to him, when policies are properly implemented, they unlock much-needed development across critical sectors, particularly in science, technology, and research. He further emphasized that societies that anchor their educational systems on science and technology are more likely to thrive, as such a foundation continually fosters innovation and generates impactful research outcomes in Nigeria.
The renowned scholar added that the essence of education is to transform society and make it better. He explained that the aim is to support institutions, government agencies, and individuals in realizing their primary objectives. He also underscored the importance of critical thinking, saying Nigerians must be capable of generating fresh, robust ideas that can drive development and deliver tangible achievements for the institutions he leads.
Prof. Majhfouz Adedimji noted that the African School of Economics and the Pan African University of Excellence are committed to exploring practical avenues for creating meaningful impact across Nigeria, including preparing for prospective future opportunities in the marketplace.
In his remarks, he maintained that while certificates are important, what truly matters is that education must provide cognitive training that equips learners to understand and navigate the global market. He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to ensure that the institutions have come to make a lasting difference.
